15 September 1916, a foundation conference was held in Zagreb, during which, with the then royal government approval, PRVA HRVATSKA TVORNICA ULJA (FIRST CROATIAN OIL FACTORY) – a joint-stock company, was formed.
according to the establishment act, the purpose was: “to build an oil factory, exploit various oil crops and sell these products”

it started operating in 1917; in the summer of the same year, the first pumpkin and sunflower oil production was initialized in Palmotićeva Street 82
a total of 800 000 liters of oil was produced during the same year
1920 – the first plant in Palmotićeva Street became too small. The factory moved to Branimirova Street

1924 – refined oil production was initialized
production capacity of 35 tons
it accounted for 55% of the total oil consumption in the country
refinery’s daily capacity was around 4 tons of edible oil in 24 hours
1935 – automatic presses were built in, achieving a capacity of 35 tons of refined oil a day

1946 – the name Prva hrvatska tvornica ulja d.d. (First Croatian Oil Factory joint-stock company) is erased and the company is registered under a new name, TVORNICA ULJA – CRVENA ZVIJEZDA, ZAGREB (OIL FACTORY- CRVENA ZVIJEZDA, ZAGREB)
it was called TVORNICA ULJA Zagreb (OIL FACTORY, Zagreb), shortened TUZ, since 31 December 1946
1957 – a part of the land of 56 ha on Žitnjak was bought and a hydrating plant was built

1952 – the first significant research within the first factory laboratory for production control is conducted in the TVORNICA ULJA
materials delivery to the press was also mechanized
oil crops dry-kiln was built
the largest purchase of sunflower until that time (achieved only in 1962)

1956 – with one production line, the first MARGARINE production was initialized and Zvijezda became the first margarine producer in the country
the market accepted the new products extremely quickly. It was widely used and it satisfied the consumers’ taste with its quality and appropriate packaging.

1959 – the production of BILJNO MASLO (VEGETABLE BUTTER) (today known as vegetable ghee) AND MASTI (FAT) was initialized
it was one more product from the group of hard vegetable fat quickly accepted on the market as well, especially by the food industry (baking and confectionery industry)

history of one of the largest Croatian brands started back in 1959 when MAJONEZA (MAYONNAISE) (in a tube) was first produced
in the beginning, the composition was often altered with the objective of adjusting the quality and the type to market’s demands

1965 – first mayonnaise in foil was produced
the local production went into full swing in the early 80s when a new line for continuous mayonnaise production started operating
the only mayonnaise producer in Croatia

since 1967, various types of margarine for industrial use (BV, LT, BB) were produced which was something new in the country
a new product in the baking industry, PEKOL additive, was launched on the market in 1970

1981 – a new line for continuous mayonnaise production started operating
in the end of 1981 new types of margarine spread called “MARGO” were produced

1984 – Zvijezda launched “GAMA”, a new type of margarine for cooking and frying in packages of 500 g

in the end of 1981 first vegetable and meat mayonnaise-based salads were out on the market
Zvijezda’s sauces, also mayonnaise-based products, were introduced into the market

in 1993 Zvijezda became part of the Agrokor concern and modernized, technologically perfected with an increased distribution and with an advertising developed strategy it is one of the largest subject of the Croatian economy.

in 1995 Prva hrvatska tvornica ulja d.d. (The first Croatian oil factory d.d.) changes its name into the one it carries today – Zvijezda d.d.
with its quality of products, strength of its line of products and distribution, Zvijezda has achieved world standards and reaffirmed its position on the market

in 2005 Omegol oil and margarine spread production was initialized
the first Zvijezda’s line of functional products which contribute to blood vessel preservation and cholesterol reduction and which are intended to all those taking care of healthy nutrition and choosing a modern and healthy way of life; the first if its kind on the Croatian market; rich with omega-3 essential fatty acids

in 2006 Zvijezda d.d. celebrated its 90th anniversary, redesigning the logo and the Zvijezda brand products on that occasion

the values of the Zvijezda Company products are authenticity, excellence and recognizability; because of its own traditional recipes and high value ingredients, Zvijezda’s products are put in the category of highly trusted products by the consumers who find it easy to be faithful to them
